Drove past the pilot last week, it looked a real sorry state, it is a shame so many happy childhood memories going, shame it could not be preserved, but that is progress.

It seems to me the way to get planning permission is to let your property get into a state of disrepair and an eyesore then no problem going through.

I can remember my cousin John walking us to the Pilot to see what was on in the middle 50's, as iconic a place as the Maiestic because it was in North Lynn, I know it has has its troubles, times change, society changes but its very very sad that a building like that should be coming down.
In my youth it was not somewhere I went to, a bit off the beaten track for me from Hunstanton but I was aware of it and that it was a symbol of North Lynn and thats how I will remember it, the picture will always be in my minds eye.

My Lynn film memories seem to be mainly of the Majestic, but I remember a special evening showing of South Pacific at the Pilot in the late 60s that was absolutely packed - also a matinee of Lawrence Arabia, during which I smoked my way through a packet of 10 Gold Leaf (remember them?).

I have been reliably informed tomorrow is the day work starts on the site to build 25 homes on the site, with the entrance to the site at the traffic lights, creating a cross junction.

So any last pics of the site should be taken Monday 24 March!
