The Pilot Cinema used to have Saturday morning Pictures for the children, and also held some sort of competitions for the kids. I played the piano and won 1st prize. I believe my Brother Ken Fox sang. Anyone else remember these times? Maureen Dunnett (nee Fox)

:smt022 ....... It’s very sad to see the old Pilot pulled down, especially when it held such wonderful memories for so many of us of a certain age. But when all said and done it had become a bit of an eyesore in the last few years.

The blue opening you can see deep inside is where one J Chase used to climb
into the cinema without paying. If he has told me that story once he has told
me a 100 times

Now I know the spelling is incorrect but the fellow that wrote it out did not.

Given me today by the man himself, J Jude. His sister 2nd left.
Taken at the opening of the Pilot cinema 1939. First picture I have
ever seen of Ben Culey and his wife.

Its sad to see the pilot go.The last film I went to see was The Deep. It was the night of 1978 floods , the North end was awash with flood water & we only just got home that night

Hi all its been very interesting reading all the posts on this, i never got to go there even when it was a nightclub rely wish i did but to late now... i cant believe there getting rid of it. I did love the art-deco look of the place shame it could not of been re renovated in to something new. I did go past on Wednesday and asked if i could have a brick or bit of the floor,, but the guy said all the floor is gone even though there a skip full down the side!!!! he did say he could sort a brick though but i had to go and had to rush back to train.... maybe one of you guys could try?? would be a good little memory!!

If I had a brick from all the properties I have pulled down I would have a pile as big as the Pilot :-D

If the photo is going into the Forum archives it should be noted that aunt Gladys was a Bunting when it was taken. She wasn't married until 1941 to Frank Collison.
My mum always told me that aunt Glad used to knit when the films were showing.

As its just a photo copy of a photo copy it will just go in the general archives desira.
The original is supposed to come to us some time in the future which will go into the
family folder. I will make a note of the name though.
