The man that gave me all these pics was a foreman raftmaker on the docks, and he tells me it was to stop them drying out to quick untill they
could do it in a controlled way as it was only the more expensive woods
treated in this way.

was the railway carriage used later for the dock canteen?

It was still there in 1959 when I was on there Simon, but what it was used for I don't know.
