1963 or 68 its a bit worse for wear. Not a lot of silver content in these late ones.
When I used to do a bit of bar work for Alan Holden years ago he used to go
through all the coins daily that we took over the bar and out of the slot
machines. Once a year he would take them to be smelted and made a nice
little packet, and knowing Alan it went straight into the bank never to see the
light of day again. :D

Like EWW said, any pre 1920 are solid silver and between 1920-47 there is some silver content. I have got a few coin books but most of them are from whn I collected coins seriously, when you still had a chance of getting old ones in your change!!!

If you have any, I can always check to see the rarity. Condition is obviously the main factor in value though, if it is worn, it is worth a lot less than if it like new!

You learn something new every day.. I was given an old coin collection by a neighbour many years ago.. there are two half-crowns (how did anyone tell, there's nothing written on them to know, I had to Google for pictures) from 1887 and 1819 (engraved with a birthdate).. it was an old neighbour I used to cut the grass for when I was younger, he had tried to collect a penny (always circulated, usually very worn) from as many different years as possible (no, not that year, I've checked alerady :) ).

I often used to ask my Dad if his parents bought him a set of coins for the year he was born, but, sadly, they didn't.

Yes, you guessed it, he was born in 1933!!!

Just like now Alastair, they were all different sizes. Tanner, Bob, Two bob (or Florin)
Half a Dollar or a Dollar. Got quite a few Dollars, Churchill, Charles and Di, Queen mum
all the usual commemorative stuff. And I used them for about the first 30 yrs of my
life :D

I work on the railway and in answer to the "Hunny line" it would just be another stretch of resources in a time where they are cutting back on man power on the ground. The double tracking of the downham to littleport would be better as this can cause some bottlenecks on some evening with trains waiting availability for using the single line.In the past few years the rumour was that the new Tesco aquired Campbells site was going to be supplied by rail-link with delivery coming from rail freight not trucks (also some track still remains at the rear of Campbells warehouse). The new Palm Paper was also meant to get a rail link back to the docks but as there is so much development around the Nar regeneration area i think this will be pie in the sky.
