hi git ,yes i think that was patrick and thompsons,my dad used to work there i used to help out bagging wood chips on a sat morning when he got in a bit of o/t ,(made a bit of pocket money) can remember that at that time he drove a small lorry with one wheel at front used for local deliveries.
during school hols later on ,used to go on longer distance trips with him delivering timber, also with one of his mates, used to sit in kitchen having breakfast with the backdoor open so that we could hear when jean (his mate) used to be on the way,as you could hear the distinctive sound of his commer lorry(dad could tell exactly where he was by the sound of the engine) always loved the transport cafe breakfasts YUM YUM :smt007

Interesting pic 8)
Some blokes are wearing trilby hats and some women have got round hats, could be around the 1930's, but I don't know for sure.

Anyone know what sort of engine is powering the ferry boat? There is no steam or smoke coming off it, so could it be diesel?

just been waiting for ferry to arrive with mrs aboard, they have the picture displayed in waiting room.
they said it was a conservancy outing, probably prior 1955 ,as the same hull is shown in another pic dated 55,but with different power unit in,
they seem to think it would have been a steam boiler shown in pic.
