Yes, it's that time again,

I have a Belkin wireless usb network adapter and it is constantly losing connection. What connection I do get is nearly always low. My office is at the back of the house. My son & daughter, who both have wireless laptops, have no problems accessing the net anywhere in the house.

Is it my adapter? Do I need a new one? Is it my computer? Do I need a new one? Is it where I am, coupled with the adapter? What can I do? I am going up the wall as I am often in the middle of something and have to wait for re-connection!

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Thanks.

Teddy

Hi
Usb adapters are well known for poor connection at times. If you have a removeable areial on your router you could fit an external antenna which would boost your signal.A good one is a Buffalo WLE-HG-NDR 6.5 dBi High Gain Indoor Omni-Directional Antenna. This may well sort out your problem. It did for me before i bought a laptop with an internal wireless adapter.
Hope this helps

Hi Teddy, you could also try getting a 2mtr USB extension lead so as you can get your adapter out from behind your comp and raise it higher. Also if your router is at the front of the house is there anyway you could move it so as it occupies a more central position.

Sorry for not replying earlier.

Teddy Junior suggested that I buy another aerial thingy and that is working great. I was considering getting a longer lead and putting the aerial in the hall so it could "see" the router, but, Mrs Teddy pointed out that that was the reason we went wireless in the first place, because she was fed up walking over wires!

Anyway, thanks so much for your suggestions, it is sorted by spending a few quid on a new bit of kit!

Teddy
