Norfolk Workhouses Census 1841 - 1861 + Data |
A workhouse was situated in one parish to support the poor of a selected region. In 1834 these regions became poor law unions as many parishes combined or incorporated for the support of the poor. Local people would probably know the workhouse by the name of the parish in which it was situated.
For example: Although situated at Rockland All Saints and possibly called Rockland Workhouse, it catered for the many parishes who had amalgamated into the Wayland Union.
