PARISH POPULATIONS - Description The acquisition of this valued document over 35 yrs ago has enabled me to increase my knowledge of Norfolk History, and has greatly aided in genealogical searches. This data for every single parish in Norfolk from 1801 – 1831 with the annual value for Real Property in the 1815 has been presented here in two separate formats. 1. By Parish: listed alphabetically. This is of advantage for the Historian and for educational purposes. Notes made by the Govt. at the time are included. 2. By Hundred or District: The Hundreds are in alphabetical order, with accompanying notes for parishes within that hundred.. By entering each parish in its district or hundred, the genealogist is able to see the largest Market Town , normally at least one in each Hundred. Many people met in the town in which they worked and many radiated to the larger parishes to enjoy the employment given there. Many young lasses went to work as domestic servants in the larger homes, and many of these larger homes, employing one or more servants were prevalent in the larger towns. Also this format enables the genealogist the note how many folks lived in the parish of birth. It is therefore likely that with a very small population the folks would have moved to larger parishes to work on the land. This data has taken a long time to produce. Please note it is for Personal Use only. This document which is a Comparative Account of the Populations of Norfolk can been viewed at the Public Record Office in Kew. Produced by the Govt. in the 1830’s. Honor Jones |
